The main instrument for democratizing the collection — making it accessible, easy to share and open to receiving new information, from anywhere in the world — is through the ICA-AtoM software. This is a completely web-based application and strictly follows the standards of the International Council on Archives. The acronym ICA derives from its name in English: International Council on Archives. AtoM, in turn, is an acronym for Access to Memory. ICA-ATOM was developed by archivists, with the aim of favoring the application of the concepts and principles of Archivology. Thus, the International Council of Archives started to make this application available as open source software, aiming to provide archival institutions with a free and easy to use so they can put their collections and archival holdings online.
